Big Chicken Town is one of the many Korean restaurants in Metro Vancouver. They specialize in boneless fried chicken which comes in many different flavours. They also serve other items such as, spicy rice cakes, odeng (fish cake), fries, cheese corn and A LOT more other things.
My all time favourite dish in Big Chicken Town is the Cheese Soonsal which contains deep fried boneless chicken and udon that is covered with with cheese and a sauce that is spicy, tangy and sweet and is served on a hot plate. The portion is HUGE good enough for three people (two if you are both REALLY hungry). Cheese Soonsal is very saucy so I usually order a small bowl of rice to share to mellow out the flavours.
Each meal comes with a complementary side of raw shredded cabbage that is served with a pinkish coloured sauce ( I am assuming it is made out of a mixture of ketchup and mayonnaise). The first time I saw this side dish I was quite reluctant to try it since I do not usually eat raw cabbage. BUT, I am glad I did because it is soo good and somewhat acts as a palate cleanser from all the greasy food.
If you are in town, make sure to check this place out. The chicken dishes are delicious and there are many different options. My ultimate goal is to try every single style and flavour they offer – stay tuned.

Other than bubble tea, I also like to cool myself down on warm sunny days by eating some ice cream. Today’s weather was perfect – not too hot but warm enough to enjoy a nice scoop of ice cream. As I said on my previous post, on really hot days I like to cool off by having fruity bubble teas because it is much more refreshing than having ice cold dairy products.
I enjoy my ice cream in a cup or a waffle cone sprinkled with nuts – especially from Purdy’s. If you are not allergic to nuts and haven’t tried Purdy’s nut toppings, you are definitely missing out. When it comes to ice cream, I do not have a favourite brand but I do have favourite flavours.

- Ube (purple yam)

The weather is finally getting a lot warmer which is perfect for drinking a nice ice cold beverage. On these hot summer days I find myself reaching for bubble tea. I think the drink is refreshing and satisfying.
Bubble tea comes in many different forms: tea, milk tea and slush/smoothie. The drink is usually served with black tapioca pearls or other toppings such as coconut jelly, pudding, and grass jelly.

- Grass Jelly Milk Tea
- Wintermelon Milk Tea
- Passion Fruit Green Tea (pictured above)
- Strawberry Black Tea
- Taro Milk Tea
Milk teas are my usual go to order. But, when the weather is really hot like today, I order the fruity drinks. It is a lot lighter and more refreshing than the milk teas. I also order my drink with 25-50% sugar because the regular amount is just too sweet for my liking.

Welcome back to another “Food Sunday”. To all my Canadian followers, Happy Canada Day! Instead of going out and joining the rest of Canada on their festivities, I decided to stay in and spend some quality time with my little one, which I very much needed after the long week I had. Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there and welcome to another “Food Sunday”.
For those of you who are not familiar with the term hot pot, it is essentially a way of cooking and eating. A boiling pot of broth (beef, chicken, mushroom, etc.) is placed in the middle of the table and surrounded by thinly sliced meats, seafood and vegetables. Everyone on the table gets to choose whatever they want to eat and cook the item in the boiling broth. A sauce is usually served on the side to dip the cooked items in.

Hello everyone and welcome to another round of “Food Sunday”. I posted this last year before my blog revamp so you will be seeing my old trademark heyitsdaniellek.com on the photos.
For those of you that are not familiar with almond tofu, it is essentially a jelly made from almond milk, sugar and agar-agar. But since it is not made with gelatin, the texture is much more firm. Traditionally, almond tofu would be made with fresh almond milk, but since I do not have time to do that, I have taken the shortcut by buying packaged almond agar (just like a jello mix). For this particular brand, the jelly is slightly sweet and the almond flavor is very settle.

If you are not following me on instagram then this will be new news for you. I got contact lenses! I have contemplated about getting them for months now and I am glad that I finally did.
To be honest, the main reason why I got contact lenses is because I really do not want to live through another summer with foggy glasses. I am not sure if this happens to anybody else but, whenever I get hot, my glasses fogs up which is annoying and slightly embarrassing – I really do not want to deal with that this summer so… contact lenses is my solution to that problem.

Welcome to another “Food Sunday”. Today’s topic is Vietnamese Noodle Soup. Call me ignorant, but, I had no idea that there were so many different types of noodle soups other than phở . For those of you who are not familiar with pho, it is a bowl of noodles in a beef broth that have been simmered with spices for hours and is served with different cuts of meats and side toppings such as, bean sprouts, chiles, lime and different types of herbs which are all optional.
I was introduced to Vietnamese cuisine at a very young age and at that time the restaurants only offered phở and a few different rice dishes. I remember that my parents would take my siblings and I to eat phở on those cold fall and winter months and it would be the best thing ever! Since then, my love for Vietnamese cuisine was born.
