Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there and welcome to another “Food Sunday”.
For those of you who are not familiar with the term hot pot, it is essentially a way of cooking and eating. A boiling pot of broth (beef, chicken, mushroom, etc.) is placed in the middle of the table and surrounded by thinly sliced meats, seafood and vegetables. Everyone on the table gets to choose whatever they want to eat and cook the item in the boiling broth. A sauce is usually served on the side to dip the cooked items in.
Hot pot is commonly eaten with a group of people but if you really wanted to eat it by yourself you can too, but it won’t be as much fun. The one thing I really love about hot pot is that you can customize it however you want. There is always something for everyone.
My co-worker prepared the hot pot pictured above. The broth is mushroom based which was really delicious – even more flavourful after all the items has been cooked. We had fish cakes, fish balls, tofu, mushrooms, pea tips, tomatoes, beef, pork, muscles and shrimp. I am not a big meat eater so I chowed down on a lot of the seafood and vegetables. I really enjoyed my meal and very thankful to my co-worker for preparing this meal.
Hot pot is a lot of fun and would recommend those who have not tried it out to do so.
Have you tried hot pot?
