Hello everyone and welcome to another round of “Food Sunday”. I posted this last year before my blog revamp so you will be seeing my old trademark heyitsdaniellek.com on the photos.
For those of you that are not familiar with almond tofu, it is essentially a jelly made from almond milk, sugar and agar-agar. But since it is not made with gelatin, the texture is much more firm. Traditionally, almond tofu would be made with fresh almond milk, but since I do not have time to do that, I have taken the shortcut by buying packaged almond agar (just like a jello mix). For this particular brand, the jelly is slightly sweet and the almond flavor is very settle.
The almond tofu (jelly) is usually served with canned fruit salad, but I prefer eating it with canned lychees (drained from it’s syrup) and fresh sungold kiwis. You can find the canned fruit and agar mix at most grocery stores in the international isle. If not, then you can find them at your local asian store. You do not have to eat it with these particular fruits ; pick which ever fruit you like.
This dessert is light and refreshing; perfect after a big meal. It is also great as a snack. If you haven’t tried almond tofu (jelly), I suggest you try it and let me know what you think on the comment section below.
